Marathon

You can do a lot in a lifetime
if you don’t burn out too fast.
Surfing slowly along the timeline,
hurdle waves until your last.

Straight lines of time and distance
from the past through years ahead.
Before the age of resistance
until the oceans have turned red.

We float along on a tiny place
in time known as the moment.
Moving every second in space until our minds start to own it.

A single star in the dome above
flashes brightly then it’s spent it.
We turn our gaze and it burns out
but only for a second.

One in a hundred or a million
in a spark or in a flash.
Look forward to the moment
and leave the last billion in the past.
